Emotional Intelligence is hard to ‘teach’ using traditional learning methods
At Impact Coaching we believe Emotional Intelligence (the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and influence emotions — both your own and those of others) is vital for individuals and organisations to thrive in the modern workplace.
However Emotional Intelligence is hard to teach in a traditional way using learning formats like role-play, classroom training or eLearning modules.
That's why we develop Emotional Intelligence using experiential interactions with horses.
Horses are amazing co-facilitators for developing Emotional Intelligence in Leaders and Teams because the qualities they demand of us are uniquely aligned to the 4 key aspects of EQ.
In addition, they respond only to your body language, real intentions, emotions and energetic presence. This non-verbal information makes up 93% of our communication and has a HUGE effect on how we come across to others.
Bringing awareness to this non-verbal information is the key to unlocking EQ skills.
“The horses added a dimension which I perhaps didn’t expect – as a tool it quickly became apparent that their use lies in the fact that they react in the truest way to how you bring yourself to situations– they have no baggage or agenda and you get a true, neutral reflection of how you’re perceived”
Adam Henderson, Commercial Bid Manager Saïd Business School University of Oxford

What happens?
In our programmes, participants observe and interact with horses on the ground in a series of tasks. There is no riding involved and no horse experience is required.
The way the horse responds reveals to the participant (without any judgement) exactly what it’s like to be in their presence and what it’s like to be led by them, or in a team with them.
Once this has been revealed, participants have the opportunity to reflect and practise the task with a different mindset or approach. They then experience the difference this makes to how the horse responds and how the task flows. This is directly relatable to the difference it will make to their relationships with their colleagues back in the workplace.
This is genuine experiential learning where the learning is embodied and highly memorable.
The outcome is individuals who are self-aware, can regulate their emotions, and relate to others with empathy, clarity and authenticity.
